Job summary

Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital is seeking an experienced RN for ICU Float. This part-time position (.6-.75) covers day and night shifts in the Critical Care Services – ICU, caring for adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients.

Responsibilities include admission assessments, accurate documentation, coordinating care with the health care team, and ensuring patient safety. Requires CCU/ICU experience, BLS/ACLS, and TNCC or CALS or PALS within six months.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with MN Board of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• 1 year Critical Care or 2 years Medical-Surgical in past five years.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required and maintained.
• PALS or certification within six months of employment.
• TNCC or CALS certification or obtain within 12 months and maintain.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality patient care and ensure safety throughout the continuum.
• Complete admission assessments using Hx, exams, and communications.
• Identify nursing diagnoses and determine interventions per standards.
• Assess adult, geriatric, adolescent, and pediatric needs; plan care.
• Maintain accurate, objective patient records and organize workload.

Overview

We care for patients with different diagnosis including but not limited to: Acute Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Post-Trauma, Shock, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Acute Croup and Surgical Patients.

Job Duties

• The Registered Nurse provides quality care to all patients and ensures patient safety throughout the continuum of patient care, advocates for the patient respecting advanced directives and patient decisions.
• The Registered Nurse completes admission assessment according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication and physical assessment. Utilizes critical thinking and analysis.
• The Registered Nurse identifies accurately nursing diagnosis/collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within the framework of accepted standards of care.
• The Registered Nurse assesses the individual needs of the adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients and developing appropriate plans of care.
• The Registered Nurse maintains accurate, objective patient records.
• The Registered Nurse ensures efficiency and accuracy of orders.
• The Registered Nurse assumes patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes.
• The Registered Nurse utilizes departments equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrates knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department specific procedures.
• The Registered Nurse nursing skills/competencies include but are not limited to: IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation, airway management, pain management, neurological assessment, fluid management, infection control measures, respiratory management and sedation/analgesia assessment and monitoring.
• The Registered Nurse communicates professionally and collaborates effectively with patients, families, co-workers, health care team members and ancillary departments to ensure patient centered coordination of care.
• The RN demonstrates abilities to manage large volumes of multiple patient, family, staff and physicians priorities within short time frames and organize workload; includes critical thinking, delegation skills and respectful communication.
• Ensures plan of care is consistent with nursing standards and hospital policy and procedures.
• Perform other related duties as required. This list is not all-inclusive and any other task or job may be assigned in the future.

Required Qualifications

• Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN preferred.
• Equivalent of one (1) year Critical Care experience or two (2) years Medical Surgical experience within the past five years.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required and maintain certification.
• Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) or attain certification within six months of employment and maintains certification.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advance Life Support (CALS) certification or attain certification within 12 months of initial orientation in the emergency department and maintain certification.
• ECG recognition/interpretation within six months of employment.
• If no candidates meet the above requirements, consideration will be given to those with one (1) years relevant Medical/Surgical experience OR 6 months of relevant Critical Care experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) CCRN certification preferred.
