REGISTERED NURSE (RN) - FULL TIME - NIGHT SHIFT
Job Summary:
Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating the nursing care of all inpatient, swing bed (both skilled and intermediate), and outpatients according to established best practices and procedures. Coordinates the patient’s care and discharge planning with the medical providers and other disciplines in the hospital and in the community. This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
Qualifications:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas.
- Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR required professional licensure at time of hire.
- Certification of Basic Life Support within three months of hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support within six months of hire.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course certification within one year of hire.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within one year.
- Required certification timeline is subject to change on approval from CNO.
- Preferred one year of acute clinical experience in a hospital setting.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive patient care on an ongoing basis as per patient’s condition and hospital policy.
- Works independently within scope of practice to provide safe, optimal patient care.
- Initiates, develops, and documents patient’s plan of care based on patient’s assessment and medical diagnosis and setting priorities for nursing actions. Notifying the provider promptly regarding concerns.
- Performs nursing interventions as per established policy, procedure, and provider's orders.
- Reviews and updates the plan of care once every 24 hours or as per policy.
- Develop and begin discharge planning on admission and provides referrals to community resources as necessary.
- Provide patient teaching as necessary to family and caretakers and provide written instructions for medications and care throughout admission and upon discharge.
- Collaborates with other health team members in planning and providing care.
- Provides and delegates nursing care of each patient’s needs to team members based on complexity, staff education and competency, state regulations, CMS standards, and Hospital District #1 of Rice County policies.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding knowledge of all patient (HIPAA) information, staff and confidential organization business.
- Promotes a positive work environment and supports and/or leads change initiatives within the department and organization to achieve effective collaboration and communication.
- Participates actively in the growth and development of nursing personnel through monthly staff meetings, daily reports, and education.
- Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental, infection control standards and mission, vision and core values of the hospital.
- Individuals hired are expected to serve patients of different ages, backgrounds, etc. When performing the essential functions of the role, the individual must identify the patient age group to be served and apply the appropriate care based on the patient’s age and background.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Essential Functions:
- Communicates effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with patients, patients’ families, providers, visitors, and staff.
- Have motor coordination and dexterity required to coordinate hands, eyes, fingers in assisting patients that are elderly, medication administration, and use of certain instruments.
- Have visual/hearing ability sufficient to comprehend written/verbal communication, medication administration, and perceive changes in patient’s condition.
- The ability to lift fifty pounds and assist with others in lifting higher weight ranges.
- Must have basic computer literacy and ability to learn new software programs.
- In a normal work day, may be required to stand and/or walk for 8 hours or longer with frequent bending and reaching.
- Hospital District #1 of Rice County operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The operational needs of the nursing department and safety of the patients may require that employees be available to work.
