Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Suffolk, VA seeks an Oncology RN to join our in-person team. The role requires handling chemotherapy and patient care under physician supervision, with travel between offices as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other meds under physician direction.
  • Monitors and assesses therapy, reporting changes to the physician.
  • Evaluates patient condition, including labs and scans, and initiates action as needed.
  • Performs venipuncture, ports access, and manages central venous devices.
  • Maintains patient flow and documents all care elements.
  • Provides telephone triage as assigned and supports medical assistants.
  • Communicates updates to physicians and team.
  • Assesses patient and family needs and provides care coordination.

Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an Oncology RN to support our office in Suffolk.

Employment Type: Full Time

Benefits: M/D/V, Life Ins., 401(k)

Compensation Range: $31.85 - $64.75. Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician
  • Assesses and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician
  • Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans and drug reactions. Initiates appropriate action.
  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems
  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow
  • Phone triage as assigned
  • Documents all elements of care
  • Serves as a resource to the Medical Assistants
  • Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or advanced practice provider
  • Assesses patient and family needs
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education required; BSN preferred
  • Oncology experience strongly preferred
  • Current RN state license required
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • OCN certification preferred
  • Must be willing to travel between offices as needed
