Position Overview:
- Delivers quality care through team effort, utilizing the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ensures patient safety by following policies and procedures.
- Supports pain management using pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures, assisting patients and families in identifying comfort strategies.
- Follows up on internal resources to evaluate intervention outcomes.
- Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patient control and participation.
- Provides information, interprets patient conditions, and offers coping mechanisms to patients and families.
- Assesses patient information needs and uses appropriate communication to facilitate understanding.
- Develops and documents discharge plans to enable patients to continue meaningful life activities.
- Integrates assessment data with intuition to anticipate healthcare needs and address them proactively.
- Ensures effective handoff communication, including reports on potential developments and pending issues.
- Proactively addresses patient education issues, especially regarding medication management and discharge instructions.
- Modifies patient care regimens using discretionary judgment and facilitates team responses to ensure safe, quality care.
- Collaborates with case managers and healthcare providers to explore care options.
- Displays awareness of unit operations and adjusts staffing as needed; participates in educational sessions to improve assessment skills.
- Provides individualized comfort measures based on evidence-based practice and innovative approaches.
- Participates in hospital and unit committees, performance improvement activities, and Joint Commission readiness efforts.
- Contributes to achieving patient satisfaction scores and understands HCAHPS metrics.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Associate's degree or graduation from an accredited nursing school.
- Experience: None required; prior experience preferred.
- Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, RN license in NJ.
- Must obtain TNCC within 1 year if assigned to specific units, plus 8 hours of trauma-related CNE.
- Must obtain NIH Stroke Scale Certification by end of orientation, plus 8 hours of stroke-related CNE if assigned to certain units.
- CPR Requirements:
- ACLS within 6 months if assigned to critical care, emergency, pediatrics, labor & delivery, surgical services, or interventional procedures.
- NRP within 6 months if assigned to maternity or emergency rooms.
- PALS within 6 months if assigned to emergency rooms, pediatric units, or certain surgical areas. ENPC accepted for adult ER.
- Knowledge and Skills: Strong problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal, communication, and current nursing practice knowledge.
- Special Training: Knowledge of hospital nursing practices, procedures, and standards.
- Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Frequent physical activities include pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, reaching, squatting/kneeling, wrist movements, fine motor skills, keyboard use, taste, and smell.
- Occasional activities: sitting, climbing stairs or ladders.
- Continuous activities: standing, walking, carrying objects, talking, hearing.
- Lifting: 25 lbs. from floor to waist; 25 lbs. at waist level and above.
- Sensory requirements: visual acuity, color discrimination, depth perception, hearing.
- Exposure risks: bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, airborne diseases, dust/particulate matter.
