Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center seeks an experienced Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room to coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced trauma setting. You will collaborate with providers and the care team to ensure comprehensive care and timely documentation.

The role requires ER experience, active RN license, and completion of ENPC, NIH Stroke Scale, and crisis intervention within defined timelines.

Qualifications

  • RN and license in good standing required; ENPC within 6 months of start date.
  • NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days of start date.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 90 days of start date.
  • ACLS within 90 days of start date; TNCC within 6 months.
  • Minimum 1 year acute nursing ER experience preferred; RN Diploma required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient pain regularly and promote effective pain management.
  • Document care in the patient record promptly and accurately.
  • Respond to patient requests promptly and anticipate needs.
  • Educate patients and families about condition, treatment, and follow-up care.
  • Teach about non-medicinal follow-up, lifestyle changes, and prevention.
  • Collaborate with leadership and care team in a high-volume ER environment.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

  • Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
  • Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
  • Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.

  • DAY-SHIFT; 3 12-hr shifts; high volume with exposure to wide range of medical emergencies in level 2 trauma center; tight-knit team; engaging & supportive leadership
What qualifications you will need
  • ENPC must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • NIH Stroke Scale must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • (RN) Registered Nurse
  • Registered Nurse Diploma
  • BLS required upon start date
  • ACLS must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • TNCC must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
  • Minimum 1 year acute nursing experience required, ER experience preferred
