Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse PAT to join our surgical team in the Operating Room. You will evaluate patients preoperatively and educate families about the perioperative process.

Work four 10-hour shifts per week, with no nights, weekends, or major holidays; participate in universal protocols, timeouts, and continuous improvement while delivering patient-centered care. You must graduate from a nursing program, hold an active RN license, and have BCLS/PALS;

Qualifications

  • Graduate of school of nursing required.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to achieve and maintain BCLS and PALS.
  • Previous clinical experience in area of specialty preferred
  • Minimum 1 year hospital based experience required

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery
  • Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
  • Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
  • Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more
  • Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
  • Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly
  • Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures
  • Under the general direction of the Director or Manager, coordinates and provides patient care and assumes individual responsibility and accountability for the provision of nursing care.

Job Summary and Qualifications

  • Continuous investment in equipment including surgical instruments, devices and patient positioning for you to do your best work with patient safety and workflow efficiency in the Operating Room
  • Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care and surgical workflow improvement
  • On-call is required during select non-business hours
  • Schedule:4 10/hr shifts per week with ending no later than 5:30PM; No nights, no call, no holidays, no weekends

Nursing care is provided in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, applicable state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice, and the generic and unit structure standards. The Registered Nurse in 786 PAT provides care for birth to pediatric (birth-2 yrs.), pediatric/child patients between (2 yrs-12 yrs); adolescent patients between 12 to 18 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
What qualifications you will need:
