Located in Bowie, MD, in the heart of Prince George’s County, UM Capital Region Bowie Health Center will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. Our new space will also allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health of Prince George’s County residents.
Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department
Schedule: Part-time / Day Shift (8:00am - 8:30pm; one 12-hour shift per week)
Location: UM Capital Region Health - Bowie, MD
General Summary
This role is considered the minimum for all nurses with over 12 months of experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as an effective member of the multidisciplinary patient care team.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following describe the general nature and level of work performed. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties.
Clinical Practice:
- Provides independent care to the unit-specific patient population; serves as a clinical resource for others; integrates evidence into practice; functions effectively within the unit.
- Responsible to patients and families for care processes and outcomes during episodes of care.
- Accountable to peers for practice advancement and to the nurse manager for overall performance.
- Serves as a primary coordinating nurse; collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate patient care.
Service/Quality:
- Assists in team development and evaluation of Patient and Family Centered Care principles; suggests improvement methods; participates in outcome data collection.
- Participates in initiatives related to Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
- Contributes to performance improvement, evidence-based practice, or research at the unit level.
- Ensures compliance with standards and participates in regulatory activities.
Unit Operations:
- Supports charge nurse decisions; performs charge role as needed.
- Assists in developing clinical protocols and standards.
- Participates in unit-based activities such as performance improvement and professional development.
- Supports the orientation of new nurses to the unit decision-making structure.
Professional Development:
- Serves as a preceptor, coach, and mentor; contributes to skills development; attends educational sessions independently.
Education & Experience
- Maryland RN licensure or eligibility via Compact agreements.
- Up-to-date mandatory training.
- At least one year of nursing experience with solid clinical skills.
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Current BLS certification; additional unit-specific licensure as required.
- Maintain 10 contact hours of education every two years.
- Recent clinical experience in a similar setting.

Compensation:
Pay Range: $39.81 - $50.75/hour, based on experience
