Job summary

Children's Health in Plano seeks a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department in a PRN, on-site role. You will provide direct patient care in a critical care setting, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with the care team to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care.

You will ensure patient safety, educate families, and coordinate care with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Qualifications

  • BSN degree required; Texas RN license.
  • Current Texas nursing license and BLS certification.
  • ACLS/NRP/PALS department requirements within 180 days.
  • At least 1 year of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prescribes, delegates and coordinates patient care with clinical judgment to develop an appropriate plan of care.
  • Ensures patient care meets safety standards and respects patient rights.
  • Oversees care delivered by the patient care team and coordinates the plan of care.
  • Provides education to patients, families, and care team with sensitivity to diversity.
  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Summary

Independently performs the functions of a registered nurse in direct patient care. Utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care. Also works in collaboration with other health care professionals to provide a comprehensive plan of care to meet the patient/family needs. Critical care settings are defined as intensive care units and/or emergency department.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating patient care. Uses clinical judgment based on nursing skills acquired through formal and informal experiential knowledge and evidence based guidelines to globally assess the patient's situation and through critical thinking and clinical decision making, develop an appropriate plan of care for the patient, with the aim of promoting comfort.
  • Accountable that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and guest relations.
  • Oversees care delivered by patient care team; coordinates plan of care.
  • Provides education and facilitates learning for patients, families, and patient care team in a way that demonstrates a sensitivity to recognize, appreciate, and incorporate differences related to diversity.
  • Collaborates with physicians, families and other healthcare professionals to assist in developing and implementing an appropriate plan of care in a way that promotes/encourages each person's contributions towards achieving the best patient outcomes.
Work Experience
  • At least 1 year job related experience required
EDUCATION
  • BSN required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas required
  • Basic Life Support required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Department specific requirements - see addendum) - Time Frame: 180 Days
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (Department specific requirements - see addendum) - Time Frame: 180 Days
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Department specific requirements - see addendum) - Time Frame: 180 Days
