Job summary

Children's Health Dallas is seeking a Registered Nurse for the NICU on a PRN commit, with night shifts on-site. The role involves direct patient care, using the nursing process and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure individualized plans of care for newborns and families.

Requires at least 1 year of RN experience, BSN, Texas license, plus BLS and department-specific certifications by the 180-day mark.

Qualifications

  • BSN in Nursing required.
  • Active Texas RN license required.
  • BLS required.
  • ACLS/PALS/NRP/PACES or department-specific certifications due within 6 months of hire; PALS required after PACES expiration for current staff.

Responsibilities

  • Independently provides direct patient care using the nursing process.
  • Collaborates with physicians, families and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement a care plan.
  • Ensures safety, quality, and patient rights in all aspects of care.
  • Educates patients and families, respecting diversity and individual needs.
  • Oversees and coordinates care with the patient care team.

Summary

Independently performs the functions of a registered nurse in direct patient care. Utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care. Also works in collaboration with other health care professionals to provide a comprehensive plan of care to meet the patient/family needs.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating and coordinating patient care. Uses clinical judgment based on nursing skills acquired through formal and informal experiential knowledge and evidence based guidelines to globally assess the patient's situation and through critical thinking and clinical decision making, develop an appropriate plan of care for the patient, with the aim of promoting comfort.
  • Accountable that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and guest relations.
  • Oversees care delivered by patient care team; coordinates plan of care.
  • Provides education and facilitates learning for patients, families, and patient care team in a way that demonstrates a sensitivity to recognize, appreciate, and incorporate differences related to diversity.
  • Collaborates with physicians, families and other healthcare professionals to assist in developing and implementing an appropriate plan of care in a way that promotes/encourages each person's contributions towards achieving the best patient outcomes.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • At least 1 year registered nursing experience required
EDUCATION
  • BSN in Nursing required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Registered Nurse-1N-RN Essential Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas
  • Basic Life Support-2R-BLS Essential Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support-2R-ACLS Essential ACLS/NRP/PALS/PACES (Department specific requirements - see addendum) New employees must obtain life support department specific certification within 6 months of hire. Effective January, 1, 2026, current employees must obtain PALS certification upon expiration of their PACES. - Time Frame: 180 Days
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program-2P-NRP Essential ACLS/NRP/PALS/PACES (Department specific requirements - see addendum) New employees must obtain life support department specific certification within 6 months of hire. Effective January, 1, 2026, current employees must obtain PALS certification upon expiration of their PACES. - Time Frame: 180 Days
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support-2R-PALS Essential ACLS/NRP/PALS/PACES (Department specific requirements - see addendum) New employees must obtain life support department specific certification within 6 months of hire. Effective January, 1, 2026, current employees must obtain PALS certification upon expiration of their PACES. - Time Frame: 180 Days
  • Pediatric Assessment, Communication and Escalation Skills-2R-PACES Essential ACLS/NRP/PALS/PACES (Department specific requirements - see addendum) New employees must obtain life support department specific certification within 6 months of hire.
