Job summary

Woodlawn Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for our Day Surgery unit in Indiana. You will provide hands-on care before and after procedures, support patients through the surgical journey, and collaborate with surgeons and the team.

This is a fast-paced, team-oriented role with a 4-day schedule and no weekends. The ideal candidate holds an Indiana RN license, BLS certification, and ACLS/PALS within 6 months, plus strong communication and customer service skills.

Qualifications

  • Currently licensed in Indiana as an RN.
  • Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain prior to direct patient care.
  • Maintain, or obtain within 6 months, ACLS and PALS certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate total nursing care for ambulatory surgery patients using the nursing process.
  • Maintain professional nursing standards for preoperative and postoperative care.
  • Assess patients, initiate discharge planning, and manage IV therapy and medications.
  • Assist physicians, transcribe and implement orders, and document observations in the medical record.
  • Coordinate care with team members and supervise nursing staff.
  • Perform age-appropriate assessments and be on call for recovery.
  • On-call responsibilities for recovery room.

Join the Woodlawn Team as a Registered Nurse – Day Surgery!

Woodlawn Health is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Day Surgery team. Be part of the surgical experience by providing hands-on care before and after procedures, supporting patients through their surgical journey, and working closely with surgeons and the surgical team. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently licensed in the state of Indiana as an RN. Maintains this licensure and provides Human Resources with any licensure renewals or changes.
  • Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain prior to providing direct patient care. Maintains BLS certification per hospital policy.
  • Maintain, or be willing to obtain within 6 months of employment, ACLS and PALS certification. During this 6-month period, must be working with a certified ACLS and PALS RN.
  • Possess and demonstrate good communication and customer service skills and pleasant phone technique.
  • Ability to adapt to variations in scheduling, including but not limited to overtime, work schedule changes or low census.
  • Ability to cross train to the recovery room and take call for after hour recovery.

Shift: Day Shift / Full-Time / 4 days per week / No Weekends

PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Coordinates the total nursing care of the patient through the use of the nursing process and provides patient and family or significant other teaching for the preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative, and home care for the ambulatory surgery patient.
  • Maintains standards of professional nursing practice for the preoperative and postoperative phase of the ambulatory surgery patient, their family and/or significant other.
  • Assess assigned patients for overall conditions and needs, coordinates and gives care appropriately including treatments, all medications, initiates and maintains IV therapy, blood/blood product administration, etc. Initiates and modifies care plans and goals, initiates discharge planning. Prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet the goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient.
  • Assist physicians as needed, transcribe and implement physician’s orders appropriately and accurately. Report to the physician or appropriate person any pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients and record these accurately in the medical record.
  • Coordinate patient care with other team members and assigns duties in accordance with patient’s needs and the personnel’s capabilities and qualifications. Directs, supervises, and evaluates nursing care provided to patient by other nursing team members.
  • Performs assessments, interprets data, and delivers all nursing care with an age-appropriate focus.
  • Assumes on call responsibilities for recovery room.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
  • Assists physicians with special tests or procedures performed on the ambulatory surgery unit. If unable to provide assistance, arranges for an appropriately prepared replacement (relief supervisor, supervisor, or available nurse from another area).
  • Participates in economical utilization of supplies. Ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner. Performs routine checks of supply carts and equipment.
  • Assists team members in giving care to patients or administers direct care when professional nursing skills and /or judgment are needed.
  • Coordinates nursing care of patients when scheduled for therapy or procedures by other departments or outside of the ambulatory surgery department.
  • Understands lab, x-ray, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and surgical procedures as well as how to schedule these and interpret results for notification of appropriate persons. Contacts appropriate persons for clarification if needed.
