Job summary

Woodlawn Health is seeking a Patient Care Tech on a PRN basis to support the Universal Care Unit in Rochester, IN. The role involves assisting RNs and LPNs, delivering compassionate patient care, and maintaining privacy and dignity across age groups.

Eligible candidates may include CNA graduates with Indiana registry or nursing students, with a focus on reliability, good communication, and strong data-entry skills. BLS certification is required or pursued prior to direct care.

Qualifications

• CNA course completed and Indiana Nurse Aid Registry on file or pending renewal.
• Nursing student status preferred; equivalent experience acceptable.
• Recent nursing graduate awaiting licensure considered.
• EMT training graduate considered for qualification.
• BLS certification required or obtained prior to direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to nursing care standards and be accountable for care during shift.
• Under RN/LPN supervision assist nursing with personal needs and comfort.
• Deliver care with privacy and age-appropriate focus.
• Within 90 days demonstrate unit-specific clinical competency.
• Assess/ report observations to the primary nurse accurately.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

One of the following is required:

• • • Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant course and registered with the Indiana State Department of Health Nurse Aid Registry preferred. Must maintain certification and provide Human Resources with any renewals or changes.
    • Currently a student in a school of nursing preferred.
    • Equivalent work experience preferred.
    • Recent graduate of a nursing program and awaiting licensure.
    • Graduate of EMT training program

• Preferably, the candidate would hold a High School graduate/GED but not required.
• Must possess Basic Life Support certification or obtain prior to providing direct patient care. Maintains BLS certification per hospital policy.
• Good computer keyboard skills. Similarly, the ability to enter data accurately and efficiently into data base systems.
• Flexible and can adapt to new situations while working quickly and efficiently.
• Prioritize time and care according to patient needs.
• Genuine interest in patients and co-workers as demonstrated by timeliness, flexibility, and attendance when scheduled, including weekends and holidays.
• Demonstrates good communication and customer service skills.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• The Patient Care Tech is responsible for adhering to all standards of nursing care and taking accountability for all patient care given during his/her shift.
• Under the supervision of the primary RN or LPN, the Patient Care Tech will assist nursing by performing skills and services to meet personal needs and comfort of an assigned group of patients.
• Delivers care while maintaining privacy and an age-appropriate and disease process focus.
• Within 90 days of employment, demonstrate clinical competency in the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric skills specifically identified on the unit skills checklist.
• Assess for and report observations of the patient’s mentation, tolerance, and overall condition accurately to the primary nurse.
