Job Description
The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role emphasizes expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team to complex patients. The nurse oversees care provided by others through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, and facilitates communication among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing practices based on the latest evidence-based research, policies, and standards to ensure safe, personalized patient care.
- Perform comprehensive, age- and disease-specific assessments independently, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Recognize changes in clinical and diagnostic status.
- Identify educational needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences.
- Develop and coordinate patient care plans with specific goals and outcomes.
- Communicate and implement care plans effectively.
- Maintain ongoing communication with patients, families, and team members regarding care and treatment plans.
- Provide or coordinate patient and family education, ensuring understanding.
- Document assessments, care plans, interventions, and evaluations electronically in real-time.
- Administer medications using advanced bar-scanning and documentation technologies.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discharges to ensure safe transitions of care.
- Evaluate progress towards care outcomes and adjust interventions accordingly.
- Utilize critical thinking to respond to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
- Identify ethical issues and collaborate with the team to address them.
- Enhance patient satisfaction through responsive care.
- Maintain necessary competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for specified durations.
- Follow organizational standards and behaviors.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Nursing or diploma; BSN in progress or willing to acquire within three years.
- Minimum six months of relevant nursing experience or participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
- Quick learner with adaptability, accountability, teamwork, ongoing education commitment, and high-quality patient care focus.
Preferred Qualifications
- National Certification in specialty areas when eligible.
Licenses and Certifications
- NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
- BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
