Job summary

Qualifications

  • Current Louisiana RN license or temporary permit required.
  • Experience in corrections or medical department preferred.
  • BLS/ACLS certification preferred.
  • Ability to work in a 24-hour facility with shift work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care, including medications and IV therapies.
  • Develop and implement nursing care plans tailored to patient needs.
  • Conduct patient rounds, document observations, and communicate changes to the healthcare team.
  • Receive and carry out physicians’ orders, coordinating with other departments.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and document medical and mental health histories.
  • Respond to emergency code situations and provide skilled care to stabilise patients.
  • Educate patients on health, hygiene, and self-administration of prescribed medications.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and in compliance with policies.

Allen Correctional Center is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the team in the Nursing Department as a Registered Nurse! Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse.

Job Duties
  • Provide direct patient care, including administration of medications, IV therapies, blood products, parenteral nutrition, and central line treatments under the guidance of a senior RN.
  • Assistindevelopingandimplementingnursing care plans tailoredtotheneedsofpatientsinassignedunits.
  • Conductregularpatient rounds toassessphysicalandmentalhealth,documentobservations,andcommunicatechangestothehealthcareteam.
  • Receiveandcarryoutphysicians’ orders,coordinatingwithotherdepartmentsasneededtoensurecomprehensivepatientcare.
  • Supportphysiciansduringpatient examinationsanddocumentdetailedmedicalandmentalhealthhistories.
  • Respondeffectivelytoemergency code situations,providingskilledcaretostabilizepatients.

Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
Compensation

This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

  • Registered Nurse 1 has an SER of $29.84 per hour
  • Registered Nurse 2 has an SER of $31.93 per hour
  • Registered Nurse 3 has an SER of $34.17 per hour

This position also offers premium pay at a rate of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • Salary depends on level of experience.
