Job summary

Harlingen Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Services department. The role involves night shifts on a 12-hour schedule (7:00pm–7:00am) in Harlingen, TX, with full-time employment and comprehensive benefits.

Candidates must hold an active RN license, BLS, ACLS, and PALS/ENPC certificates within specified timelines, with ED experience preferred. BSN and CEN are desirable, supporting ongoing professional growth.

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN license.
• BLS certificate upon hire and maintained.
• ACLS certificate within 30 days of hire and maintained.
• PALS certificate and/or ENPC within 30 days of hire and maintained.
• Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum 1 year ER/acute care hospital RN experience; ED preferred.
• CEN certification preferred.
• BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition upon arrival and triage per protocols to identify life-threatening cases.
• Provide direct patient care including medications, wound care, monitoring vitals, and pain management.
• Assist with stabilizing patients and initiating life-saving interventions (ACLS, PALS, trauma care).
• Manage high-stress situations calmly and efficiently across multiple patients or mass casualty events.
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions.

Hours: 12-hour shift – 7:00pm to 7:00am

Location: Harlingen Medical Center - Harlingen, TX

Responsibilities

• Assess patients upon arrival to determine the severity of their condition and prioritize care accordingly, follow standardized triage protocols to quickly identify patients who require immediate attention due to life-threatening conditions
• Provide direct care to patients with a wide range of medical conditions and injuries which may involve administering medications, performing procedures such as wound care or splinting, monitoring vital signs, and managing pain
• In cases of severe illness or trauma, you may assist with stabilizing patients and initiating life-saving interventions, this can include advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and trauma care
• Manage high-stress and rapidly changing situations effectively. remain calm, focused, and decisive while providing care to multiple patients simultaneously during busy shifts or mass casualty events
• Educate patients and their families about their medical conditions, treatment options, and discharge instructions

Qualifications

• Current and valid state RN License.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
• Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
• Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting; E.R. setting preferred.
• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Facility Specific Requirements (facility May Require Items Listed Below)

• In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current.
• EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire.
• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNNC) within 12 months of hire required.
