Job summary

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a dedicated Registered Dietitian for a PRN role, covering patients across Inova Hospitals with up to 40 hours per week as needed. Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one Saturday per month.

The RD will provide clinical nutrition services, collaborate with the healthcare team, and support patient education. Strong emphasis on safety, quality and patient experience in a leading nonprofit system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree minimum if licensed before 1/1/2024; Master’s degree required for RD after 1/1/2024.
• Registered Dietitian (RD) required within 3 months of hire.
• Basic Life Support from American Heart Association required within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and therapeutic nutritional care in a comprehensive and systematic manner.
• Perform comprehensive nutrition assessments and formulate individualized plans.
• Coordinate nutrition care with physicians and healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Educate physicians, residents, nurses and other providers on nutrition therapy goals.
• Incorporate research findings into nutrition practice standards and patient education materials.

Education

Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Dietitian to join the Team. This PRN position has the opportunity to cover patients at all Inova Hospitals allowing for up to 40 hours per week coverage, if there is a coverage need. Hours are 8-4:30 Mon-Fri with 1 Saturday coverage per month.

• The Dietitian Registered provides safe and therapeutic nutritional care in a comprehensive and systematic manner.
• Provides clinical services and act as a resource to physicians, nurses and other professional healthcare team members, to provide patients with optimum nutritional care.
• Performs a comprehensive assessment by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data and synthesizing their interrelationships.
• Formulates an individualized nutrition plan of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.
• Anticipates nutritional intervention issues, monitors patient tolerance to nutrition therapy and responds when standards of nutrition care recommend changes.
• Coordinates the nutrition care plan with the physician and other healthcare providers while serving as a resource in the integration of the nutrition care plan into the comprehensive plan of care for the patient.
• Communicates with the healthcare team members, patients and families to maximize patient outcomes.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to increase practice knowledge and incorporate that knowledge into the nutrition plan of care.
• Provides education to physicians, residents, nurses and other healthcare providers to optimize nutrition therapy outcomes.
• Incorporates research findings into nutrition practice standards, develops/revises patient education programs and participates in the development and revision of patient education materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree minimum if licensed before 1/1/2024; Dietitians registered after 1/1/2024 must hold a master’s degree
• Certification:
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) requiredwithin 3 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association requiredwithin 3 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of aDietetic internship preferred.
