Posting Summary

Rutgers University is seeking a part-time Registered Dietitian for the Department of Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The primary role involves assessing and intervening with pediatric (birth to 18 years) and young adult (19-21 years) patients for nutritional risk and education. Key duties include:

1. Performing nutrition assessments in accordance with New Jersey State Health Code and policies, triaging clients for appropriate care, and documenting all nutritional care in the medical chart using the S.O.A.P. format or as specified.
2. Monitoring and evaluating client progress, implementing nutritional care collaboratively with primary care providers, and participating in interdisciplinary conferences and discharge planning.
3. Maintaining clinical competency through ongoing education (at least 15 CEUs annually), peer review, and cross-training; developing and executing clinical research projects with nutrition staff and medical teams.
4. Counseling and educating patients and families on nutritional needs, developing instructional materials, and supporting client self-care.
5. Maintaining accurate records and communicating nutritional information to primary care physicians and the ADCPS team during rounds and reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field; registration by the American Dietetic Association or eligibility to take the exam within six months of hire.
• Preferred: 2 years of experience with Bariatric Patients.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds, and talking/hearing are involved. No special vision requirements.
• Work Environment: Moderate noise typical of an office setting.
