Job summary

Northwell Health in Bay Shore, NY, seeks a Dietitian for a flexstaff contract to evaluate nutritional needs, plan diets, and counsel patients. You will document findings, collaborate with medical staff, and ensure accurate diet orders in patient records.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s in Food/Nutrition/Dietetics and becomes an RD within three months; one year of acute care experience is preferred. This is a flexible, contract-friendly on-site role supporting diverse patient needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition or Dietetics, required.
• Registered Dietitian (RD) within three (3) months of date of hire, required.
• Active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, preferred.
• One year acute care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interviews patient and/or family for nutritional history.

• Assists with menu changes and standardized recipes.
• Oversees food service workers for proper handling and portion control.
• Reports equipment malfunctions affecting operation.
• Participates in performance improvement initiatives with data collection.

Job Description

DIETICIAN - FLEXSTAFF CONTRACT

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Interviews patient and/or family for nutritional history.
2. Obtains patient food preferences.
3. Assesses patients and documents in patients’ medical record, according to
hospital policies and procedures.
4. Recommends nutrition care plans to medical staff for review and consideration.
5. Recommends therapeutic diet modifications and/or supplemental feedings to
physicians for patients.
6. Ensures accuracy of diet order received by checking against physician’s order.
7. Calculates nutrient content of tube feeding, TPN/PPN, and dietary intakes
(calorie counts) as ordered by physicians.
8. Provides nutritional guidance and counseling to patients and their families.
Provides written material as needed and according to prescribed diet.
9. Assists Chief Clinical Dietitian with changes to patient’s menu, including
patient food preferences, and development of standardized recipes.
10. Assists in overseeing food service workers in proper food handing and
portion control.
11. Reports any malfunctioning of equipment which may interfere with a safe and
smooth operation.
12. Participates in performance improvement initiatives including data collection
and reporting on results.
13. Performs related duties, as required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food, Nutrition or Dietetics, required.
• Registered Dietitian (RD) within three (3) months of date of hire, required.
• Active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, preferred.
