Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a Clinical Dietitian Nutritionist to join our NY team. This role mentors staff, conducts nutrition assessments, develops care plans, and collaborates with physicians to optimize patient diets.

You will educate patients and families, calculate nutrient needs, contribute to menu planning, and support daily clinical operations.1-3 years of relevant experience and RD certification required. This is a full-time position in a hospital setting with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nutrition/related field or equivalent licensure requirements.
• RD certification is required to practice in NY.
• CDN credential may be required depending on setting.
• Advanced certifications may be required to support specialized care.
• 1-3 years of relevant clinical nutrition experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and train team members to ensure high-quality nutrition care.
• Perform varied clinical nutrition tasks of minimal complexity accurately and responsively.
• Interview patients and families for nutritional history and document in medical records.
• Assess patients, develop and implement care plans, and present to medical staff.
• Recommend therapeutic diet modifications and verify order accuracy.
• Provide nutrition guidance and counseling to patients and families.
• Calculate nutrient content for tube feeding and dietary intakes.
• Contribute to menu development and oversee food service staff on handling and portion control.
• Support clinical functions and daily operations within the team.
• Deliver individual and group nutrition education sessions and refer to community services as needed.
• Participate in wellness initiatives and communication within program and community.
• Provide in-services to culinary and interdisciplinary teams on therapeutic diets.
• Participate in QA/PI tasks including data collection and process improvement.

Job description

Job Responsibility

• 1.May mentor and train team members.
• 2.Responsible for accurately and responsively performing varied clinical tasks and problems of minimal complexity.
• 3.Interviews patient and/or family for nutritional history, obtains patient food preferences, assesses patients, and documents in patients’ medical record.
• 4.Conducts nutritional assessment, develops and implements patient specific care plans, and assists in recommending nutrition care plans to medical staff for review and consideration.
• 5.Recommends therapeutic diet modifications and/or supplemental feedings to physicians for patients, and ensures accuracy of diet order received by checking against physician’s order.
• 6.Provides nutritional guidance, education and counseling to patients and their families in accordance with the prescribed diet.
• 7.Calculates nutrient content of tube feeding and dietary intakes as ordered by physicians.
• 8.Contributes to changes to patient’s menu, including patient food preferences, and the development of standardized recipes, as well as assists in overseeing food service workers in proper food handing and portion control.
• 9.Supports a clinical function to assist clinical team members and department or unit management with carrying out daily clinical operations.
• 10. Prepares, presents, and conducts individual and group education classes, and refers clients to community services, as needed.
• 11.Participates in and promotes Northwell wellness initiatives.
• 12.Develops and utilizes effective lines of communication regarding nutrition information within the program and community.
• 13.Provides in-services to culinary, food service and interdisciplinary teams regarding therapeutic diets and related topics.
• 14.Participates in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement related tasks including data collection and executes tasks related to it, as directed.
• 15.Solves or escalates operational problems and technical issues to senior team members and management; modifies existing tools or processes

Job Qualification

• 1.Master's Degree, required OR meets the prior education requirements for Licensure established by the New York State Department of Education.
• 2.Current Registered Dietitian Certification with the Commissions on Dietetic Registration, required.
• 3.Certified Dietitian Nutritionist in New York State (CDN), as needed.
• 4.Advanced/specialized certifications, as needed.
• 5.1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
