Registered Dental Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The primary role of the Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is to assist the dentist in gaining the patient’s commitment to the best possible treatment, with urgency. Key duties include:

• Assisting the dentist in starting treatment and promoting the dentist’s qualities using x-ray and intra-oral pictures.
• Learning patient expectations and educating them effectively.
• Using effective chair-side skills and supporting the dentist’s diagnosis.
• Abiding by safety, infection control, and permitted duties regulations.

Responsibilities

1. The primary role is to assist the dentist in gaining the patient’s commitment for optimal treatment.
2. Participate actively in the Perfect Patient ExperienceÔ by focusing on patient needs and concerns.
3. Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment; prepare patients and assist the doctors.
4. Complete x-rays and intra-oral pictures as directed by the dentist.
5. Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care.
6. Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment following ADA guidelines.
7. Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and privacy regulations.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or GED, with required state training courses.
2. Certifications/licenses as mandated by state (e.g., radiograph, coronal polish).
3. Associate degree or a one-year certificate from an accredited institution preferred.
