Registered Dental Assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The primary role of the Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is to assist the dentist in gaining the patient’s commitment to the best possible treatment, with urgency. Key duties include:

1. Utilizing x-ray time to promote the good qualities of the dentist.
2. Learning the patient’s expectations and educating them with intra-oral pictures.
3. Using effective and anticipatory chair-side skills.
4. Supporting the dentist’s diagnosis after the examination when patients ask questions.
5. Abiding by procedures needed for compliance with safety regulations, infection control, and permitted duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist to gain the patient’s commitment for treatment urgently.
• Participate in the Perfect Patient ExperienceÔ by focusing on optimal treatment and patient concerns.
• Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment; prepare patients and assist the doctors.
• Complete x-rays and intra-oral pictures as directed by the dentist.
• Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care.
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments, equipment, and operatories following ADA guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and privacy regulations (e.g., OSHA, HIPAA).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; required training courses for certification, licensure, or registration as mandated by state.
• Certifications/licenses as required (e.g., radiograph, ultrasonic scaling, sealant application).
• Associate degree or one-year certificate from an accredited college or equivalent experience preferred.

Compensation: $19.25-$27.00/hour.
