Overview

Registered Dental Assistants perform patient care, office, and laboratory duties. The primary role of the RDA is to assist the dentist in delivering excellent treatment and gaining patient commitment with urgency. Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting the dentist during treatment initiation and patient education, using intra-oral pictures and effective chair-side skills
• Supporting the dentist's diagnosis and answering patient questions post-examination
• Ensuring compliance with safety, infection control, and permissible duties according to regulations

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist to secure patient commitment for treatment
• Participate in providing a positive patient experience by addressing individual needs
• Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment; prepare patients and assist the doctors for efficient treatment
• Complete x-rays and intra-oral pictures as directed by the dentist
• Instruct patients on postoperative and oral health care
• Sterilize and disinfect instruments and operatories following ADA guidelines
• Maintain compliance with all relevant safety and health regulations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; required training courses for certification, licensure, or registration as per state
• Relevant certifications/licenses (e.g., radiograph, ultrasonic scaling, sealants) mandated by state
• Associate degree or one-year certificate from an accredited institution preferred, or equivalent experience
