The primary role of the Registered Dental Assistant Extended Function II (RDA-EF) is to assist the dentist in gaining the patient’s commitment to the best possible treatment, with urgency. Key duties include:
- Utilizing x-ray time to promote the good qualities of the dentist and educate patients with intra-oral pictures
- Using effective chair-side skills and supporting the dentist’s diagnosis after examinations
- Abiding by procedures for compliance with safety, infection control, and permitted duties
Responsibilities
- Perform functions according to state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties and strive to achieve the Perfect Patient Experience
- Attend to individual patient concerns and expectations
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment; prepare patients for treatment and assist doctors to provide quality dental care
- Obtain dental history, complete x-rays and intra-oral pictures, instruct on oral health care, and record treatment notes
- Prepare tray setups, present instruments, and sterilize equipment following ADA guidelines
- Escort patients and introduce them to the Continuing Care Clerk
- Maintain supplies, professional appearance, and adhere to all regulations (OSHA, HIPAA, ADA, etc.)
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; required state certification, licensure, or registration
- Preferred: Associate degree or one-year certificate from an accredited institution
- Certificates/licenses as mandated by state (e.g., x-ray, ultrasonic scaling, sealant application)
- Ability to use hands, stand, walk, sit, and lift up to 10 pounds; good vision skills
