NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Job Title: Registered Behavior Technician

Reports to: Director of Special Education

Dept./Campus: Campus Assigned

Status: Non-Exempt

Funding: Local

Pay Grade: P15

Primary Purpose: A Behavioral Technician’s responsibilities include helping students who struggle with a variety of behavioral problems. They collaborate closely with BCBA and teachers to carry out behavior plans for individual students and assist with day-to-day tasks to ensure student health and well‑being.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Behavior Technician Certification preferred.
  • 3 years of classroom experience preferred.
  • A comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of implementing behavior plans and collecting data.
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide campus level staff development.
  • Crisis Management certified (CPI/Safety Care)- preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support the special behavioral needs of the student.
  • Coordinate students’ learning needs through classroom teachers.
  • Work with students individually and/or in small groups (maximum of eight per small group at one time).
  • Work as part of the campus team.
  • Communicate with teachers, support personnel and administrators.
  • Provide support to teachers with recognizing and responding to multiple needs of students.
  • Be accountable to the campus administrator and Special education office.
  • Keep updated records of training and certifications of staff.
  • Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administrator.
  • Track student progress and provide reports as requested.

Supervisory Duties: N/A

Equipment Used: Personal computer, copier, calculator, and fax machine.

Working Conditions: This position requires occasional prolonged and irregular hours, frequent interruptions, and occasional stressful conditions. The position requires repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computers. The position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, prolonged sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist high.
