Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Registered Behavior Technician

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt Classified Compensation Plan, 9-Month Work Calendar; 40/Week FT (District Medical Benefit Package for 40 hr. /wk. Position)

REPORTS TO: Principal and Assigned Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Registered Behavior Technician will provide intensive behavior support services to students in-district. The RBT will work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to implement behavior support plans for students that require consistent and significant behavioral support during the school day. The Registered Behavior Technician will meet all of the requirements of RBT certification.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES (essential functions)
  • Understand and apply the basic principles of ABA in classroom settings as directed. 2. Assess student needs and provide interventions to redirect behavior
  • Collect and submit data needed for Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans. (BIP)
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans to affect behavior changes
  • Regularly review, and remain well-versed in a multitude of BIPs in order to implement the plans and monitor plans for multiple students, at the same time
  • Provide direct consultation to the Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (ACBA) or Principal, specific to analysis of data and recommendations for modifications or revisions to BIPs.
  • Model implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans for paraprofessionals and staff 8. When required, provide physical intervention for students demonstrating unsafe behaviors 9. Perform and document the district approved restraint and seclusion methods; as well as participate in yearly crisis intervention training provided by the district.
  • Participate as a member of the school crisis team
  • Attend regular department meetings with the BCBA and other RBTs
  • Maintain consistency of Behavioral Intervention Plans by communicating and providing input to teachers and other support staff
  • Work with multiple students, wide-variety of age ranges, as assigned by the administration, case manager, and/or BCBA, work at multiple sites during the school year
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, use stairs, get up and down from off the floor, all with ease. Job will be physically demanding at times.

  • Ability to follow and practice policies related to proper procedures for restraint and seclusion Physically fit in order to maintain capability to physically intervene when students are unsafe, and maintain physical requirements listed under essential duties
  • Must be flexible, creative and problem solving oriented in approach
  • Ability to give attention to detail and strong communication skills
  • Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required: High School diploma or GED. PRAXIS or Work Keys test accepted, or Associate’s degree, or, 60 college credits. Minimum of formal training in theories of Applied Behavioral Analysis, or Behavioral Support Interventions and successful completion of the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training course and examination for certification. Must maintain annual RBT certification. Valid Arizona DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance card.

Preferred: A minimum of 2 years previous experience working with students who require behavior support.
