Job summary

VCA Animal Hospitals is seeking a Group Medical Director to lead quality medicine, patient safety, and clinical excellence across multiple hospitals. You will mentor Medical Directors and veterinary teams to ensure evidence-based care and exceptional client experiences.

The ideal candidate will be based in New York or New Jersey and collaborate with Medical Affairs, operations, and patient care leaders to align clinical practices with organizational goals.

Qualifications

• DVM (or equivalent) required.
• Active veterinary license (or ability to obtain in assigned states).
• 8+ years veterinary practice experience.
• 4+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Drive high-quality, evidence-based veterinary care across hospitals.
• Coach and develop Medical Directors through reviews, visits, and feedback.
• Champion patient safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
• Support adoption of new medical standards and best practices.
• Oversee medical record quality, equipment standards, and clinical compliance.
• Oversee client communications, case management, and follow-up care.
• Lead recruitment and onboarding of veterinarians, including new graduates.
