Job summary

Canteen, a Compass Group company, is seeking a Traveling Support Chef to lead culinary operations across multiple client locations in Illinois and Michigan. You will ensure food quality, manage teams, plan menus, and support catering events as you travel between sites.

The ideal candidate has hands-on kitchen experience, a customer-focused mindset, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while supporting diverse operations and teams nationwide.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of culinary management experience required.
• Hands-on chef or sous chef experience required.
• Experience supporting management teams while maintaining high culinary and service standards.
• Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, healthcare, or related food service operations.
• Experience with menu planning, food production, and inventory management.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on culinary leadership at assigned locations.
• Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, sanitation, and customer satisfaction.
• Support accounts during staffing shortages and operational transitions.
• Assist with menu planning, food production, purchasing, and inventory management.
• Execute catering events and special functions.
• Monitor food costs and assist in controlling account costs.
• Train culinary team members on food preparation, safety, and standards.
• Implement culinary programs in partnership with operations and marketing.
• Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and company policies.
• Travel regularly to support multiple accounts within the region.
