Job summary

The Simplot Company is seeking a Regional Safety Specialist for Pasco/Othello, WA to improve safety culture across the site. You will work with the Regional Safety Manager to engage plant personnel, develop documentation, and support safety/food safety initiatives while promoting best practices site-wide.

Responsibilities include auditing safety programs, conducting incident investigations, delivering safety training, and collaborating with on-site medical and training resources to expand safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from a 4 year college or university; substitution possible with manufacturing/military experience.
  • Preferred bilingual English/Spanish.
  • 3+ years of manufacturing related experience and/or training.

  • Perform periodic audits of safety programs per OSHA/ANSI standards.
  • Communicate hazards and unsafe behaviors on the floor professionally.
  • Lead OHS risk identification, assessment, and control; conduct incident investigations.
  • Develop and review OHS policies and procedures.
  • Provide educational resources to increase safety awareness.
  • Present safety training to adult learners for required programs.
  • Work with training manager on safety learning materials.
  • Prepare and present information on safety topics.

Regional Safety Specialist - Pasco/Othello, WA

Summary

Successful candidates will work with the Regional Safety Manager and be responsible for developing a positive and continuously improving plant safety culture via engagement of all personnel from plant director, managers, supervisors as well as logistic, production and maintenance personnel; ability to problem solve issues and formulate new ideas to meet safety criterion and key performance indicators; provide proper and accurate documentation and provide pertinent information to all stakeholders; work with training manager on developing and maintaining web-based safety learning materials; fielding technical questions with regards to occupational health and safety standards; work closely with our on-site medical provider and show a desire to expand and participate in roles outside of safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform periodic audits of safety programs such as confined space, lock out tag out, fall protection, eye wash/chemical showers, job safety/hazard analysis, fire suppression systems, and other similar OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Ability to communicate with employees on the floor of potential hazards and unsafe behaviors in a professional manner.
  • Coordinate OHS risk identification, risk assessment, and risk control in all areas across the site, lead incident investigation, and reporting activities.
  • Contribute to the development and review of OHS Policies and Procedures in line with regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Provide educational resources and ideas to increase safety awareness.
  • Function as a safety liaison and provide a high level of customer service to entire Simplot Pasco and Othello campuses.
  • Respond and conduct incident investigations from injury, property damage, near misses, and hazards reported with effective action plans put in place to decrease incident from re-occurring and decrease severity level.
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present information and training to adult learners for programs such as fall protection, aerial work platform certification, powered industrial truck certification, confine space entrance, lockout tagout, and other safety trainings as required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
  • Ability to master computer software programs such as Enablon, JDE, Basic Safe, and Microsoft.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to: chemical wet suits, fryer suits, and fall protection; work in hot and cold environments; enter confined spaces; and work on elevated surfaces.
  • Good time management skills and ability to balance multiple, simultaneous assignments.
  • Develop, implement, and ensure best practices are being followed for safety and food safety.
  • Develop and create media content for site communications.
  • Assist with plant security efforts.
  • Have the ability to obtain Safety Trained Supervisor (STS), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Occupational Hygiene Safety Technician (OHST) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) through Board of Certified Safety Professionals; and Lean and Green Belt Six Sigma Certification
Typical Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university; Relevant manufacturing or military experience maybe substituted for Bachelor’s degree from a 4 year college or university
  • Preferred bilingual with English/Spanish
  • 3+ years of manufacturing related experience and/or training preferred.

Wage range or rate of pay: $70,000 - $75,000 annually, plus annual incentive plan eligibility
