Regional Safety Lead – Data Center & Heavy Civil Construction

Location: Midwest – Kentucky, Ohio, or Indiana preferred
Travel: Regular regional travel required

About the Role

Gregory Construction is seeking an experienced Regional Safety Lead to provide hands‑on safety leadership across multiple projects throughout the Midwest.

We're looking for someone who understands the type of work Gregory performs. The ideal candidate brings a strong heavy civil construction background, including experience with underground construction, wet and dry utilities, excavation, trenching, concrete, and related civil scopes, along with direct experience supporting data center construction.

This is a regional field leadership role— not a desk‑based safety position. You'll travel between active jobsites, partner closely with operations and project leadership, mentor safety professionals, and help drive consistent safety performance across the region.

What You'll Do

• Lead safety performance across multiple data center and heavy civil construction projects.
• Maintain a strong field presence and regularly travel between assigned Midwest jobsites.
• Oversee Site‑Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and corrective actions.
• Provide safety leadership for underground utilities, wet and dry utility installation, excavation, trenching, concrete, and other heavy civil operations.
• Authors and maintains written programs, site‑specific safety plans, JHAs, and client submittals that are accurate, current, and accepted.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective‑action planning.
• Coach and mentor Safety Technicians and other project safety personnel.
• Partner with project managers, superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and clients to improve safety performance.
• Identify trends and help establish consistent safety expectations across multiple projects.

The existing role specifically includes regional SSSP oversight, inspections, trenching, excavation, incident investigations, mentoring, and collaboration with project teams and clients.

What You Need

• 5+ years of construction safety experience.
• 3+ years of direct data center construction safety experience – required.
• Strong safety experience in heavy civil construction and underground work, including experience with scopes such as wet utilities, dry utilities, excavation, trenching, concrete, and/or underground infrastructure.
• CHST or equivalent professional safety certification OR a bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, EHS, or a related safety discipline – required.
• OSHA 510 – required.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards and high‑risk field operations.
• Experience with SSSPs, JHAs, pre‑task planning, incident investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Ability to effectively coach and influence field personnel and project leadership while holding teams accountable to safety expectations.
• Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the Midwest.

The current job description requires five years of construction safety experience and OSHA 510 and specifically identifies excavation and trenching experience as relevant to the position.
