Job summary

Forestar Group Inc. is a residential lot developer, affiliated with D.R. Horton. The company seeks an Associate Region Real Estate Counsel-FG to assist Region Real Estate Counsel with legal matters across multiple markets and to support operations teams in the region.

The role involves handling routine real estate matters, coordinating closings, drafting covenants, and providing business-focused legal guidance while escalating high-risk issues to counsel. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Current license to practice law.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance to region and division personnel on land acquisition, development, and disposition.
• Coordinate real estate closings with paralegals, division staff and outside counsel.
• Review and revise contractor and subcontractor contract documents and negotiate disputes.
• Provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance to internal clients while identifying and escalating legal, business, and compliance risks.
• Prepare restrictive covenants and associated HOA documents and provide legal support to Region HOA Managers.
• Coordinate with outside counsel on financing districts (PIDs, Metro Districts) and bond issuances to ensure policy compliance.
• Support land banking, development and construction agreements, joint development agreements, easements, and related disputes.
• Analyze and maintain standard contracts and other business documents.
• Coordinate with internal teams to support compliance with corporate policies and document retention.
• Assist in managing a large volume of transaction work and prioritize deadlines.
