Region Operations Manager

Since 1996, Military Deli & Bakery Services (MDBS) has proudly served military families, providing fresh, high-quality deli and bakery products at U.S. Military commissary stores across the country. As the largest government contractor for these departments, we operate 103 locations nationwide.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Region Operations Manager oversees multiple Deli/Bakeries and District Managers within the assigned US region. This leadership role involves developing and motivating management and staff, increasing sales, and maintaining high standards in food safety and customer service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support the Region Director with operational and administrative tasks.
  2. Manage daily operations of Deli, Bakery, Hot Food departments, and Sushi operations, focusing on sales growth, staffing, training, customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and HR policies.
  3. Ensure food safety compliance according to the Military Tri-Service Food Code and meet inspection standards.
  4. Promote safety procedures and foster a positive work environment aligned with HR policies.
  5. Develop strong manager/employee relations, coaching, and morale to reduce turnover.
  6. Ensure exceptional customer service and positive relationships with DeCA Store Management and personnel.
  7. Train and develop managers and staff, ensuring completion of training programs and operational standards.
  8. Use reporting tools to monitor performance, identify issues, and implement corrective actions.
  9. Create and execute plans to increase sales and customer traffic, including strategic initiatives for growth.
  10. Maximize gross margin through product mix, merchandising, inventory control, and shrink reduction.
  11. Implement new products and merchandising programs to boost customer engagement.
  12. Manage operating costs, including labor budgeting.
  13. Address job performance issues in collaboration with District Managers and HR.
  14. Participate in succession planning, identifying and developing potential leaders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A four-year college degree is preferred; a two-year degree with substantial supervisory experience in supermarket chains may be considered.
  2. At least five years of supervisory experience managing multi-unit operations in the food industry.
  3. Proven leadership, team-building, and motivational skills.
  4. Strong communication skills, especially in formal written interactions.
  5. Excellent organizational and financial analysis skills.
  6. Proficiency in computer applications like Excel and Word.
  7. Willingness and ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
  8. Food Safety Manager certification required or obtainable upon hire.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Home-based position with approximately 60% overnight travel.
  2. Ability to travel long distances by car and plane.
  3. Ability to read, analyze data, and communicate verbally.
  4. Physical ability to lift 30-50 pounds and operate deli/bakery equipment.
  5. Stand and walk for 8-9 hours daily.
  6. Good driving record and ability to operate rental vehicles and access military installations.
