Job summary

The Children’s Home in Penfield, NY seeks a Maintenance Specialist to care for buildings and grounds, performing daily and preventive maintenance to ensure a safe environment for children and staff.

You will handle carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and related tasks; inspect safety systems; perform minor repairs; and support renovations with clear reporting and teamwork. Applicants need 3+ years across trades, good communication, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience across 3 or more maintenance trades: electrical, plumbing, construction, HVAC or mechanics.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and strong problem-solving skills.
• Some computer knowledge required.
• Driver's license and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform general carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
• Repair drywall, paint, and perform touch-ups as needed.
• Check safety systems (fire alarm) and ensure compliance with fire safety standards.
• Inspect control panels and wiring to identify issues.
• Install appliances and equipment.
• Handle minor fixes like locks, wall gaps, etc.
• Maintain grounds: mowing, trash collection, and seasonal upkeep.
• Snow removal duties as needed.
• Inspect equipment and systems (e.g., ventilation) and troubleshoot.
• Collaborate with others during renovations and document activities.
• Notify supervisors of maintenance needs promptly.
• Maintain professional communication with agency contacts and vendors.
