Job summary

Merck is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to serve as a therapeutic and disease expert, exchanging scientific information with Scientific Leaders. You will support scientific exchange, research, congress activities, and insights while traveling up to 50% within a designated US territory.

The role requires a PhD/MD/DO/etc. and at least 3 years of relevant experience, with strong communication and governance knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national and regional SLs to ensure access to company-approved medical information.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a reliable presence with SLs to ensure they have a medical contact within the company.
• Addresses scientific questions and directs SL inquiries on issues outside of Regional Medical Scientific Director scope to appropriate company resources.
• Maintains current knowledge of dynamic scientific and clinical environment in the Company's AOI for the regional director’s therapeutic area.
• Initiates discussions with SLs and potential investigators to determine alignment with research strategies, studies concepts and qualifications for a compound or trial.
• Enhances comprehension of scientific foundations and goals of investigator-sponsored research.
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment and retention to achieve study milestones.
• Recommends study sites and investigators to participate in phase II-IV programs; conducts SIVs; detects barriers to enrollment.
• Leads protocol development in collaboration with GCTO.
• Addresses questions from investigators regarding participation in Company-sponsored studies.
• Engages in scientific congresses and medical meetings for data exchange.
• Gathers feedback and information to help understand medical needs and priorities of SLs and patients.
