The Regional Intake Clinician is a behavioral health professional responsible for supporting admissions and patient access goals for multiple facilities within the designated region. This position provides clinical support across three designated facilities and may be required to report onsite to any of the designated facilities within the region within three hours of notification based on operational, clinical, contractual, or business needs. This role manages inbound referrals, phone-based assessments and intake screenings, and coordinates admissions in collaboration with the clinical teams. The Regional Intake Clinician must provide strong customer service, multitasking, and communication skills in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions:
  • Promptly respond to inbound referrals via phone or fax.
  • Processes requests for admission from outside referral agencies and from within the community.
  • Reviews clinical packets for criteria in alignment with the capability and capacity of the facility.
  • Maintains understanding of admission and exclusionary criteria of each assigned facility.
  • Conducts phone assessments and Intake Screening and Assessment Part 1 thoroughly on all appropriate accepted patients.
  • Completes insurance benefit verification and authorizations.
  • Documents all calls and referrals into the EMR system.
  • Pre-admits patients in the hospital billing system.
  • Collaborates with other facility personnel to ensure appropriate recommendation of referrals.
  • Coordinates admission and transfer between other hospital systems, emergency departments, outpatient providers, and community referral sources.
  • Communicates projected admissions to designated facility staff.
  • Complies with organization policies and procedures.
  • Maintains ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Behavioral Health, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, RN or a related field required.
  • Two years experience in behavioral healthcare, experience with crisis management, intake or inpatient psychiatric treatment preferred.
Qualifications / Skills:
  • Understands admission criteria for varying levels of care, medications commonly prescribed for treatment of psychiatric illness and community resources.
  • Interprets medical clearance and is able to discern acutely medical inappropriate values and how they should be addressed to be able to consider for admission. Must possess interpersonal skills to develop rapport with presenting patient, family members and referral sources.
  • Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's needs and provide appropriate referrals, including age related care and disability related care by Chronically Mentally Ill, Adult, Geriatric and Chemically Dependent patient populations.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of mental illness and chemical dependency and family dynamics which accompany them. Must have excellent communication skills related to age specific patient needs.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficient assessment skills.
  • Must be versatile, flexible and able to perform in stressful situations.
  • Must have good time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work with an array of mentally/physically disabled persons.
  • Must be able to read, to write and to follow verbal and written instruction.
  • Must be knowledgeable concerning DSM-V diagnosis.
  • Must be able to delivers patient services in a respectful manner which promotes dignity and patient satisfaction.
  • Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
Work Environment:
  • Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. This person might sometimes experience disagreeable odors, sights, and/or unpredictable patient behavior.
  • Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • This position is classified as a hybrid regional role; however, the position requires regular flexibility to report onsite based on operational, clinical, contractual, or business needs.
  • Regular travel between supported facilities is required.
  • Work requires remote position requiring confidential HIPAA compliant workspace. Required to have access to audio and camera capabilities via computer for meeting and other work duties as assigned.
