A leading transportation services provider is seeking a Regional Maintenance Director to oversee fleet maintenance operations across the Central U.S. This executive-level role is critical in supporting the safety, reliability, and performance of a large-scale fleet of buses and vans. The ideal candidate will bring operational discipline, hands-on leadership, and a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance & Operational Oversight
- Lead preventive maintenance and repair efforts to ensure high vehicle uptime and safety performance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local transportation and safety regulations
- Drive execution of repair schedules, preventive maintenance programs, and parts inventory management
- Standardize maintenance processes and best practices across multiple garage locations
- Monitor key metrics such as PM compliance, breakdown rates, and cost per mile to drive performance
Leadership & Team Development
- Manage, mentor, and support location-based maintenance managers and supervisors
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence
- Support technician hiring and retention strategies
- Identify and address training needs to build technical and leadership capabilities
Budget & Cost Control
- Oversee maintenance budgets across the region in alignment with company objectives
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to maximize warranty recovery
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the primary maintenance liaison for the Central Region
- Coordinate closely with operations leaders to align on fleet availability and maintenance support
- Partner with company leadership and cross-functional departments (e.g., Finance, Electrification, Asset Strategy) on key initiatives
- Deliver consistent updates on regional performance, challenges, and opportunities
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in fleet maintenance or transportation operations, including 5+ years in a multi-site or regional leadership role
- Deep understanding of maintenance systems, safety compliance, and regulatory standards
- Proven success in budget management and driving cost control
- Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to operational discipline
- Proficiency with fleet management and maintenance reporting systems
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with FMIS platforms, warranty recovery programs, and electric vehicle technologies
- Technical certifications or trade school training
