Job summary

North Slope Borough Fire Department seeks a Firefighter/EMT Trainee to respond to emergencies, perform firefighting and EMS duties, and travel to North Slope communities for training and support.

The role is a career-ladder position with pay increases as certifications are earned; a valid Alaska driver’s license is required and certification progress is tracked per the attached schedule.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED or equivalent education.
• Ability to obtain Firefighter/EMT Trainee certifications within six months of hire.
• Knowledge of fire ground operations safety.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies and perform firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical duties as assigned.
• Travel to NSB communities to provide support and training.
• Assist instructors to ensure training courses are taught per lesson plan and schedule.
• Maintain equipment readiness and inventory; operate and inspect emergency and rescue tools.
