Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a Deputy Regional Disaster Officer in California. You will oversee volunteer-led disaster services, deploy regionally, and ensure readiness and rapid response. The role requires leadership of paid and volunteer staff and extensive collaboration across teams.

You will coordinate disaster relief operations, build regional leadership capacity, and engage communities to prepare for emergencies. Regional travel and deployment are inherent parts of the job.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7 years of related experience.
• 5 years of management experience of paid or volunteer workforce.
• A current valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Empower Volunteers: Direct a team of employees and volunteers for disaster services within the region, delivering rapid, accessible, and equitable services.
• Lead the Program: Oversee the disaster cycle services program in line with standards.
• Mission Capacity Building: Develop regional Disaster Leadership Volunteers and partners.
• Engage Community: Mobilize communities and partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
• Manage in a Matrix: Collaborate with internal partners in a matrix environment.
• Know Your Communities: Serve as the regional disaster leader and subject matter expert.
• Ready to Respond: Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations within the region.
