Job summary

USPI seeks a Regional Director of Operations to oversee a portfolio of ambulatory surgical centers, driving P&L results, service levels, quality and compliance. You will lead multiple administrators, craft business plans, and engage physicians to spur growth and efficiency across centers.

You will champion strategic initiatives, monitor KPIs, and report progress to Governing Boards while partnering with corporate resources to advance USPI's goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in health professions, business administration, public administration or other suitable field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum ten years' experience with exposure to healthcare business development & operations, finance, and business consulting
  • Demonstrated success with people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and formal presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with "C" level healthcare partners, physicians, employees, patients, and fellow workers.
  • Excel & PowerPoint analytical and presentation skill a must
  • Ability to articulate financial results and respond to questions from hospital and physician partners.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude to assist with budgeting, reporting and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute operational, financial, and growth strategies for ambulatory surgery centers and align with organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement annual business plans for each center with quarterly board updates.
  • Identify growth and efficiency opportunities to improve portfolio performance.
  • Engage physicians and office leaders to maintain open communication and collaboration.
  • Lead administrators responsible for day-to-day operations; provide coaching and development.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, labor productivity, supply management, and EBITDA performance across centers.
  • Drive center growth by supporting surgeon engagement and service line development.
  • Monitor KPIs, escalate risks, and implement action plans to improve performance and compliance.
  • Cultivate partnerships with physicians and medical staff; attend Governing Boards; uphold governance standards.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Regional Director of Operations is responsible for the overall performance of a portfolio of ambulatory surgical centers, with accountability for P&L results, operational service levels, quality, safety, and compliance. The role works closely with facility administrators, facility teams, Governing Boards, Physician Partners, and corporate resources to execute business plans, improve performance, and drive growth in alignment with USPI's strategic objectives and policies. The Regional Director also serves as a key relationship leader for physicians, fostering engagement and strengthening partnerships to support performance and growth.

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and execute operational, financial, and growth strategies to optimize the performance of the ambulatory surgery centers, aligning with the overall goals and objectives of USPI. This includes growth opportunities, streamlining operations and maximizing financial performance.

Develop and implement annual business plans for each center; ensure quarterly updates are presented at the board level and during partnership meetings.

Continuously identify and implement growth and efficiency opportunities to enhance the performance of the portfolio.

Proactively engage physicians and their key office leaders and staff through regular outreach and relationship-building efforts to maintain open communication, identify needs or barriers, and support effective collaboration with the ASCs.

Leadership Development:

Lead, develop, and support a team of administrators who are responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations. Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure that each team member is equipped to perform their roles effectively, achieve performance goals, and contribute to the overall success of the organization.

Provide coaching, development, targeted training and management in key areas such as HR, finance, reimbursement, partnership management, etc. to strengthen leadership capability.

Operations Leadership:

Own execution of operational and financial priorities across assigned centers, including budgeting, forecasting, labor productivity, supply management, and EBITDA performance.

Lead administrators/CEOs in identifying operational barriers, implementing corrective actions, and improving center performance.

Drive case volume growth by ensuring centers are operationally prepared to support surgeon engagement, service line development, block utilization, and efficient scheduling.

Monitor key performance metrics, elevate risks or resource needs as appropriate, and develop action plans to improve operational consistency, compliance, clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience, and financial results.

Partnership Management:

Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with physicians including new physicians and well-established physicians on medical staff. This involves regular communication, collaboration on strategic initiatives, and addressing any concerns or issues that may arise.

Attend and serve as the representative of USPI on Governing Boards associated with the ambulatory surgery centers. Uphold corporate governance standards, contribute to strategic decision-making and advocate for the interests of USPI while collaborating with other board members and stakeholders.

Foster open communication and collaboration across departments and levels of organization, ensuring alignment of efforts toward common goals. Maintain regular communication with corporate leadership, Market Presidents, and other stakeholders to provide updates, seek input, and address any challenges or opportunities.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in one of the health professions, business administration, public administration or other suitable field. Master's degree preferred.
