Job summary

1898 & Co., part of Burns & McDonnell, seeks a Director of Power System Planning for the Mountain Region, based in Denver. You will provide strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of Power System Planning services across the Mountain and northwest US regions.

You will lead and grow a high‑performing consulting organization, align capabilities with market demand, and promote delivery excellence while modeling the firm’s values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related field with 13 years of consulting experience required.
• Master's degree, MBA preferred.
• Strong business acumen with proven success managing consulting engagements.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret large data sets.
• Ability to uncover customer needs and deliver persuasive recommendations.
• Excellent facilitation, collaboration, organization and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong understanding of financial concepts.
• Excellent planning and analytical skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction, managerial leadership, and operational oversight for Power System Planning services in the Mountain region.
• Lead and grow a high‑performing consulting organization aligned with firm priorities.
• Recruit, develop, and retain consulting talent to meet regional needs.
• Conduct performance reviews and development discussions with staff.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive and high‑performance culture.
• Oversee staffing strategies, workload balancing, and resource planning.
• Support client engagement and proposals; act as escalation point for delivery concerns.
• Promote cross‑selling with adjacent business lines.
