Job summary

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Marketing, Food Distribution Program, seeks a Regional Commodity Specialist. Based in Roanoke, you will oversee USDA donated foods in schools, coordinate regional marketing, and ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.

Require knowledge of institutional food service, strong customer service, ability to interpret regulations, and MS Office proficiency.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of institutional food service operations, nutrition or food science/safety principles.
• Exceptional and enthusiastic customer service skills.
• Ability to apply basic principles of marketing and promotional concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to work independently; to organize and present ideas, materials and concepts clearly; and to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
• Experience analyzing and interpreting government regulatory contractual terms and data.
• Must have experience planning and scheduling workloads.
• Requires frequent travel with occasional overnight stays.
• Must possess proficiency in the use of personal computers to include the use of MS Office Suite and other related applications.
• H.S Diploma/GED required.
• Must have (or be eligible for) and maintain a valid driver’s license and have a driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway safety.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the application of regulations and policies for the Food Distribution Program in schools and institutions.
• Travel regionally to market Virginia foods and develop institutional marketing data.
• Conduct administrative reviews in the assigned region and monitor distributor performance.
• Work with Food Banks to ensure USDA commodities meet guidelines.
• Communicate with program clients and vendors about procedures, regulations and contracts.
