Job summary

Busey Bank is seeking a Regional Credit Officer to lead underwriting and portfolio management for designated markets within Northern Illinois. You will guide a team of Commercial Credit Officers, Underwriters and Analysts, shaping risk strategies while collaborating with Relationship Managers on loan opportunities and client relationships.

The role requires 10+ years in Commercial Credit with leadership experience, a Bachelor’s in Business/Finance, and strong MS Office skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Business or Finance required.
• 10+ years of Commercial Credit experience with prior single signature authority.
• 5+ years in a progressive management/leadership role.
• 5+ years with middle-market loan relationships of $10–$100 million; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of Commercial Credit Officers, Commercial Underwriters and Credit Analysts, including hiring, training, mentoring, and ongoing professional development.
• Ensure timely underwriting through regular communication with your team and with Regional/Market leadership.
• Use financial data (cash flow, liquidity, profitability, leverage) to assess and minimize credit risk.
• Review loan grades to ensure alignment with policy definitions.
• Assist with portfolio management tasks: covenant reviews, portfolio reviews, reports, and monitoring borrowings.
• Assist Relationship Managers with structuring loan opportunities and covenant structures for new/existing relationships.
• Maintain knowledge of the Commercial Banking Loan Policy, playbook, and lending tech platform.
• Support sales, including visits with Relationship Managers to client/prospect calls.
• Approve loans within authority or recommend above-threshold approvals.
• Participate in pipeline meetings to understand opportunities and renewals.
• Communicate with Senior RCO and leadership about personnel, pipeline, and credit migration/deterioration.
• Serve as SME on Commercial & Industrial borrowers for Northern Illinois.
