Job summary

Crane Freight is seeking an experienced accounting leader to manage AR/AP/GL functions and drive accurate financial reporting. You will oversee internal controls, cash postings, and credit management while coordinating with station managers and vendors.

Ideal candidate has 7+ years in accounting leadership, degree in Accounting/Finance, and proven ability to improve processes during growth. On-site position in Houston with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in managing AR/AP/GL functions for medium to large companies.
  • Experience with internal controls and internal checks related to credit and collections.
  • Experience handling foreign currency receivables.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage all functions related to maintaining and reporting accurate and timely financial results.
  • Establish and implement short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures.
  • Provide leadership toward value-added activities supporting operational excellence and teamwork.
  • Ensure internal controls and checks for processing invoices, receipts and disbursements.
  • Keep senior and station management informed of financial conditions and trends.
  • Work with managers and collection agencies on specific accounts.
  • Manage credit terms and write-offs in line with policy.
  • Produce reports on past due amounts by location and client.
  • Manage cash postings, short payments and unallocated cash for timely reporting.
  • Initiate weekly conference calls with station managers to review receivables.
  • Supervise AP staff and manage training and discipline per policy.

Job description

  • Perform and manage all functions related to maintaining and reporting accurate and timely financial results, ensuring internal controls and procedures are in place followingapplicablestatutory reporting requirements.
  • Establish and implement both short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures.
  • Provide leadership toward additional value-added activities, in which the accounting function can provide support of operational and departmental excellence while fostering teamwork amongst staff.
  • Ensure system of internal control and check is in place for processing invoices(both revenue and cost), receipts and disbursements.
  • Keep seniorand stationmanagement and personnel informed of financial conditions, activities and trends.
  • Work with managers and collections agencies on specific accounts.
  • Manage credit terms and credit amounts to ensure they are in place and adhered to including oversight of bad debt provision and write offs consistent with company policy.
  • Producereports showing status on past due amounts by locationandclient.
  • Manage all cash postings, short payments and unallocated cash positions to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Initiate weekly conference calls with station manager’s to review the receivable status for each station.
  • Supervises the daily functions of AP staff with responsibilities for training, disciplinary action and promotion in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Ensures all general ledger account reconciliations are completed in a timely manner including identification and resolution to reconciling items.
  • Interactswith vendorstoensure timely and accurate payment of invoices.
  • Plansand implementsAP process improvements to improve efficiency and strengthen controls.
  • Review and analyze AP aging and other AP reports.
  • Other duties as assigned

Other Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to meet deadlines and managefinanceteam locally while engaging station managers remotely. Must be willing to engage in all aspects offinance/accountingwhile the company grows.
  • Proven success in driving down past due amounts and DSO figures.
  • Excellent communication skills --- dealing withmultiple layers of station, regional and corporate management as well asclients and vendors.
  • Ability to adapt tochallenges that comes from rapid growth.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 7years’ experience in managing an AR/AP/GLfunctions for medium or large company
  • Accounting/ Finance degree or equivalent.
  • Experience of internal control and internal check systems relative to Credit and collections.
  • Experience in dealing with foreign currency receivables.
  • Working knowledge of thefreightforwardingand/or customs brokeragebusinessisa plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Talking, hearing and using hands to operate computer equipment
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus
  • Job may require extended sitting or standing, use of standard office equipment.
  • Job will require punctual attendance and regular presence on-site at the assigned work location.
