Job Description Summary:
The Community Development Team, within the Advancement Department at Children of the Nations (COTN), exists to build new and existing relationships with churches, schools, businesses, and groups to engage people and present the vision of Children of the Nations. The purpose is tomobilize partners to get involved in giving their time, talent and treasure to impact children and students who will transform their nations. This role is focused on raising funds with churches and individuals to meet the needs of children in Africa and the Caribbean.
Job Description Detail:
• Build relationships within a regional portfolio of partners (long-standing and newly recruited
churches, civic groups, schools, individuals, etc.) to engage them with COTN goals and
objectives. Responsible for managing relationships by cultivating them and developing
patterns of giving.
• Lead and equip a new group of Volunteer Advocates, who share the life-changing
experience of child sponsorship with others.
• Responsible for acquiring new church partners for the ministry.
• Grow funding to support ministry initiatives, with a fundraising portfolio focused on approved
projects and programs. Design, plan, and participate in the development of funding activities.
• Execute planned and measurable action steps designed to serve and deepen relationships
through strategic meetings and event involvement.
• Recruit guests to attend local fundraising events and dinners.
• Network, develop, and respond to invitations to present COTN and mobilize churches,
organizations, and individuals to get involved.
• Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle.
Other Responsibilities:
• Meet performance objectives and goals (Financial/Sponsorship).
• Assure an important level of accuracy and professionalism when providing information about
COTN.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Strong faith and dependence on Jesus Christ.
• B.S./B.A. degree or equivalent preferred.
• Experience with domestic or international NGOs, child sponsorship, volunteer management,
and/or church engagement is preferred.
• Strong commitment to uphold COTN’s Mission and Vision statements as well as codes of
conduct.
• Demonstrated and sincere interest in all aspects of COTN’s ministry and a dedication to
promoting opportunities to serve.
• Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse
areas.
• Successful experience in developing in-depth cultivation and solicitation strategies.
• Highly relational, excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrated record of completing
assignments.
• Must be willing to travel an average of 5-10 days per month – mostly local, with some
regional, national or international travel.
• Must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, and a self-starter.
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must have excellent organizational and presentation skills, with good attention to detail.
• Must have good software skills, including (but not limited to) Microsoft Office, MS Teams,
Outlook, customer relationship software, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs, etc.
• Ability to take responsibility for personal and organizational results and proactively develop
greater ability to expand the COTN mission.
• Some evening and weekend work is required

dealing with people within and outside of COTN.

• Advocates for our children, raising awareness of their needs and potential, and challenging
and enabling those within one’s sphere of influence to greater involvement on behalf of
children.
• Fosters connectedness to COTN organization by participating in weekly COTN prayer
meetings, quarterly All Staff meetings, and yearly Homecoming week.
• Participates in annual goal setting and employee evaluations.
• Raise awareness and financial support for COTN.
