Job summary

Alexion in Schaumburg, IL is seeking an experienced Pharmaceutical Sales professional to drive nephrology indications across the territory. You will build trusted relationships with nephrologists and care teams, while educating providers on therapies and patient pathways.

You will aim to consistently achieve sales objectives, develop account plans, and expand clinical knowledge to support timely patient treatment and successful practice adoption within hospital systems and clinics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5 years pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience (biotech or medical device) or 5 years in a medical setting.
  • Proven, documented track record of top-tier sales in institutions, hospital systems, or complex specialty markets.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Strong clinical acumen and account-based selling skills to develop accounts.
  • Ability to qualify leads, profile new accounts, and build relationships with providers and staff.
  • Access and develop professional relationships for scientific exchange and promotion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong organizational abilities.
  • Must live in the territory or within 50 miles of the border.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, including overnight and weekends travel.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusted relationships with healthcare professionals across your territory.
  • Represent Alexion’s nephrology indications, educating providers on therapies and patient support.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed sales objectives in assigned territory.
  • Create and maintain account-specific business plans reflecting local market forces.
  • Develop in-depth clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge across nephrology indications.
  • Educate on the clinical approach to relevant disease states to support timely treatment.
  • Build and maintain relationships with nephrologists and other stakeholders in academic centers and hospitals.
  • Collaborate with internal cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Handle questions and objections consistent with product indications and sales training.
  • Demonstrate proper use of products to clinicians in hospital, clinic, and infusion center environments.
  • Lead a patient-centric partnership model including clinicians, staff, patients, clinics, and care partners.
  • Utilize CRM tools to manage territory priorities, engagement, and reports.
  • Execute local promotional activities and programs for nephrology indications.
  • Provide high level product expertise and customer service to accounts.
  • Interact with Alexion management to refine product and market initiatives based on field insights.

Job description

  • Build trusted relationships with healthcare professionals across your territory
  • Represent Alexion’s nephrology indications, helping providers understand our therapies and how they support patients with rare nephrological conditions
  • Consistently achieve or exceed sales objectives in assigned territory
  • Create and maintain strategically targeted account-specific business plans that reflect an in-depth understanding of local market forces impacting product sales, diagnostic pathways, referral patterns, and treatment adoption
  • Develop and maintain strong, in-depth clinical, technical, and scientific knowledge across assigned indications, with emphasis on renal disease education and the needs of nephrology customers
  • Demonstrate the ability to educate on the clinical approach to relevant disease states, leading to successful differential diagnosis, appropriate testing, and timely treatment of focus patient populations
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with nephrologists and other key stakeholders in academic centers, community hospital systems, physician clinics, infusion centers, and related sites of care
  • Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional stakeholders
  • Handle customer questions and objections in a way that is consistent with product indications and sales training methodology
  • Understand and demonstrate proper use of products to clinicians in hospital, clinic, and infusion center environments
  • Lead the implementation of a patient-centric partnership model that includes physicians, their staff, patients, clinics, hospitals, and relevant care partners
  • Effectively utilize CRM tools to manage territory priorities, track account engagement, document sales activities, and submit required reports accurately and on time
  • Execute local promotional activities and programs for the assigned therapeutic areas
  • Provide a high level of product expertise and customer service to all accounts
  • Proactively interact with Alexion management to refine product and market initiatives based on field insights, access trends, and account needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience (e.g., Biotech or Medical Device), or 5 years of experience in a medical setting
  • Proven, documented track record for delivering consistent, top-tier sales results in institutions, hospital systems, and/or complex specialty markets
  • Ability to work independently as well as interdependently in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong clinical acumen, account-based selling, analytical, and strategic skills to successfully develop accounts
  • Demonstrated ability to seek out and qualify leads, profile new accounts, and build durable relationships with relevant healthcare providers and office staff
  • Ability to gain consistent access and develop strong, professional relationships for scientific exchange and promotion with healthcare providers in community and academic settings
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational abilities
  • Must live in the geographic territory or live within 50 miles of the geographic territory border
  • Ability to travel within territory on a regular basis, which may include frequent overnight and weekend travel
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
