Medical University of South Carolina in South Carolina is seeking a Research Specialist I for the Amy Engevik Lab. The role is in a basic science setting focusing on cellular trafficking in the GI tract and liver.

You will support lab operations, histology, and molecular biology experiments under supervision. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with two years of research experience (bachelor’s in a life science can substitute).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or other life/health science preferred.
• Two years of work experience in a clinical or research setting required or a bachelor's degree substituted for experience.
• Experience in basic histological techniques and molecular biology is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic lab maintenance: glassware washing, solution making, inventory of reagents and items.
• Perform histological techniques including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning; immunostaining and microscopy.
• Mouse husbandry for 5-8 transgenic/targeted lines; genotyping, weaning, and tissue collection.
• Molecular biology: DNA isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis; RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, qRT-PCR; organoid culture.
• Maintain records of animals and experiments; use Google Docs, Excel and Word; assist in protocol writing and data backup.
