Job summary

The City of Denton is seeking a skilled automotive mechanic to repair and maintain gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Department. You will prioritize duties and participate in repair and maintenance tasks to ensure vehicle readiness.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of experience in automotive, heavy-duty vehicle, and/or refuse vehicle repair.
  • Must have an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diagnostic work on refuse collection vehicles and supporting equipment.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, DEF components, high-pressure hydraulic cylinders, pumps, hoses, and brake systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, CAN-bus systems, lighting, camera systems, sensors, and GPS units.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and safety inspections according to DOT/OSHA and manufacturer specs.
  • Maintain records of work performed, parts used, and labor hours.
