Job description

Summary:
Entry level for Refrigeration/HVAC technician (Apprentice/training position). Assist Skilled Technicians with refrigeration and HVAC maintenance, repair and support to assigned service calls. Demonstrate the company’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Assist other skilled trade technicians in repairs as requested.
  2. Drive independently to stores on a daily basis as assigned or needed to meet technicians.
  3. Assist with and perform various preventive maintenance tasks and procedures to buildings and equipment.
  4. Assist in compressor, large motor and component replacement.
  5. Assist in leak checks and refrigerant management.
  6. Troubleshoot issues and repair equipment as directed by other skilled technicians.
  7. Operate equipment, vehicles, powered industrial trucks and aerial lifts safely.
  8. Orally communicate with store personnel and other skilled technicians.
  9. Utilize company email to send and receive messages.
  10. Comply with all department and company policies and procedures.
  11. Utilize company work order system for assignments and track time.

Physical demands include, but are not limited to, high aptitude for standing and walking endurance, sitting while driving to various stores, lifting and carrying up to 70 pounds, pushing and pulling, climbing ladders of various types, bending, squatting, and kneeling, and working in different temperatures inside and outside the store.

Language Ability:
Ability to read, and communicate effectively in English.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of computers and be able to email, use tablets/Smart Devices as well as a general knowledge of functionality of systems for tracking work and time.

Certificates and Licenses:
Valid driver’s license.
EPA Refrigerant –Universal– Certificate preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Refrigeration/HVAC/Electrical Technical School is preferred.
• One year refrigeration/HVAC experience with satisfactory overall performance is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime when necessary.

There is no automatic progression from this job to the next level job (Refrigeration Technician II).
