Actalent, Inc. is seeking a Referral Specialist in Buellton, CA. This full-time, onsite role coordinates internal and external referrals to specialty providers, verifies insurance, and secures prior authorizations to support patient care.

You will document in the EHR/EMR system and communicate updates to patients, providers, and offices. The position handles a high volume of referrals daily, works with clinical and administrative teams, and requires strong organization and attention to detail in

Qualifications

• Experience in referrals or a medical office setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HMO, PPO, Medi-Cal and related referral workflows.
• Experience using EMR/EHR systems to enter and track referrals.
• Proficiency with medical terminology and medical record documentation.
• Knowledge of prior authorization processes and managed care requirements.

Responsibilities

• Process and coordinate internal and external referrals to specialty providers promptly.
• Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations as required by health plans.
• Submit referral requests and track status through completion.
• Attach all supporting documentation to each referral (chart notes, labs, imaging).
• Communicate referral updates clearly to patients, providers, and specialty offices.
• Maintain accurate EHR/EMR documentation for referrals and authorizations.
• Follow up on pending referrals to meet turnaround times and complete the process.
• Collaborate with front/back office staff and providers to support patient care coordination.
• Manage high referral volumes daily with organization and accuracy.
• Apply medical terminology to interpret and process referral documentation.
