Job summary

Universal Hospital Services Inc. in Sparks, NV is seeking a Referral Specialist to review and coordinate external patient referrals for admission to facility programming. You will evaluate the facility’s capacity to meet referred patients’ needs and communicate with clinics, patients and providers.

The role requires two years of healthcare experience, strong communication, and the ability to schedule tests, pre-authorize procedures, and pre-certify with insurers within tight timelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a healthcare or clinical setting.
• Communicates effectively with clinics and hospital.
• Schedules tests and referral appointments within 24 hours from receiving the physician order.
• Pre-certifies appropriate tests with insurance companies within 48 hours of physician order.

Responsibilities

• Review referrals and coordinate external patient referrals for admission to facility programming.

Referral Specialist reviews and coordinates external patient referrals for potential admission to facility programming. Provides accurate evaluation of the facility’s capacity and capability to meet the needs of referred patients.

• Scheduling referrals for patients, providers, pre-authorizing & pre-certifying tests/procedures.
• Scheduling other tests with facilities at the request of providers and/or staff.
• Directly communicating with clinics, referred clinics, and patients.
• Reviewing clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

• Communicates effectively with clinics and hospital.
• Communicates information to appropriate areas, departments and individuals.
• Covers at other clinics as a receptionist as requested.
• Schedules tests and referral appointments within 24 hours from receiving the physician order.
• Notifies patients within 24 hours of their appointment.
• Pre-certifies appropriate tests with insurance companies within 48 hours of physician order.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in a healthcare or clinical setting.
