Job summary

Quincy Medical Group is seeking a Referral Specialist to help coordinate patient access to specialty care services. About the Role

As a Referral Specialist at Quincy Medical Group, you will play a key role in coordinating patient access to specialty care services. Working closely with providers, clinical teams, insurance companies, and patients, you will process referrals, obtain prior authorizations, and ensure patients are connected to the appropriate care in a timely and efficient manner. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Schedule

Full-time position, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Position based in Quincy, Illinois. Standard weekday schedule with no weekends or holidays. Fast-paced administrative healthcare environment focused on patient access and care coordination.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Process incoming referrals for specialty care services accurately and efficiently.
  • Obtain and manage prior authorizations from insurance companies as required.
  • Coordinate appointment scheduling between patients, providers, and specialty clinics.
  • Communicate with patients regarding referral status, appointment details, and next steps in care.
  • Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for referred services.
  • Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and external healthcare organizations to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Monitor referral queues and ensure timely completion of all referral workflows.
  • Respond to patient inquiries via phone, portal messages, and internal communications.
  • Support patients in navigating the healthcare system and accessing appropriate services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support patient access operations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in healthcare, medical office, scheduling, insurance, or customer service preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and insurance verification preferred.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with clinical and administrative teams.
  • Commitment to providing excellent patient service and support.

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range

Base pay range of $16.12 - $24.08 per hour, with actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through bonuses and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
