The Referral Coordinator is the resource person for both the patients and clinicians of Marin City Health and Wellness Center in either their Bayview San Francisco or Marin City clinics. The Referral Coordinator works closely with clinicians to coordinate patient care with other healthcare offices, hospitals, agencies and programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for completion and processing of all authorizations and referrals ordered by providers and requested by patients for services inside and outside of MCHWC
- Verification of patient insurance eligibility
- Maintain authorizations/referral information in patient chart through a tracking mechanism
- Maintain extensive resource directory for MCHWC staff and patients for access of community resources
- Knowledge of managed care requirements for referral
- Ensure superior customer service to patients, including problem resolution.
- Punctuality, regular and reliable attendance
- Performs other duties as directed, developed or assigned

Qualification Requirements:
Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum 1 year in administrative work in a health care
- Experience with insurance, referrals, authorizations, and community contacts highly preferred
- Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience providing strong customer service
- Excellent communication skills written and verbal
- Sensitivity to the needs and situation of multi-cultural population from a variety of income levels
- Excellent attention to detail
Language Skill:
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, on the telephone, and in writing
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and requests from patients, co-workers and others, as necessary
- Must possess excellent organization, writing, and verbal skills
- English proficiency required; Spanish proficiency preferred
Reasoning ability:
- Ability to recognize problems, collect data, and establish facts
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Equipment/Machinery:
Fax machine, copier, personal computer, telephone, calculator, Microsoft Word/Excel, EHR system, and other software as required.
